Amazing Predator Sculpture

September 6th, 2013

Every once in a while I get a very interesting, very intriguing email showing me something I have never seen before.  Such was the case in the email I got from Sandra Cutic.  Sandra is the daughter of Jasminko Cutic a gentleman who, in his retirement, has crafted one of the most amazing full-sized Predator statue I have ever seen.  The level of beauty, skill and detail is truly astounding and what completely blows me away is that Mr. Cutic has had absolutely no training as an artist!   He is a total Predator fan and one day just sat down and started pounding and welding some metal.

Take a few minutes and watch this short video that gives a close examination of this amazing piece of work.

Predator Paint Contest

August 6th, 2013

Can you get any cooler than winning an award for best Predator from one of the main artists who created the original monster for the movie?  The winner of the “Steve Wang Best Predator Kit” autographed trophy at the Jerseyfest Model & Art Contest will be picked out by none other than Steve Wang himself, who will be a special guest at the show all weekend long.  The category is for best paint job/composition of a Predator kit – figure, bust or diorama.  Steve will sign the trophy and give it to the winner at the awards ceremony.  A picture will be taken of Steve handing the trophy to the winner, which will be provided to the person to capture this once in a life time, memorable moment.  The contest and awards ceremony will be held during the vendor show on Saturday, September 14th and will feature many other awards and prizes.  More info about the contest will be posted in the coming weeks so keep checking in! We hope to see many hardcore Predator fans at the show in Predator costumes and with props to say hello to Steve!

Predator LSB Statues Sold Out – But Wait….

July 8th, 2013

As we anticipated, both the P1 and P2 Legendary Scale Busts are all gone.  These two very nice pieces are now selling for $200-300 over the list ($349.99) on ebay and elsewhere.  I know this may sound self-serving as hell but if you want to start or add to your Predator statue collection, you have to act very fast and grab these jewels before they disappear!  Why?  Because they disappear very fast.  Even editions that number 500 pieces go in just a matter of weeks.

BUT, if you still want one of these beautiful busts and do not want to pay $50+ in shipping check out the vendors at Monster Mania (August 16-18) in Cherry Hill, NJ and the JerseyFest Fair (September 13-15) in Fairfield, NJ.  I know that a few of those dealers have been holding on to a few busts so you might luck out.  A WORD OF CAUTION.  The copiers from Thailand and Hong Kong are up to their old tricks so make sure what you are paying for is real – original boxes, certificates of authenticity and the run number.  Have fun!

Members Show off their Predator Suits

June 5th, 2013

Since I assumed responsibility for this site, I have been amazed by the number of people who write me looking for a Predator-type suit.  During June-December, 2012, I received over 300 emails asking where folks could buy a suit.  Until recently I referred everyone to our good friends over at the Hunters Lair where a bunch of very talented people have been producing all sorts of very cool Predator-type suits, weapons and accessories.  But over the past few months, we have joined forces with some very talented artists who create whole suits, bio helmets and a whole variety of very cool accessories.  And the response has been tremendous.  For a very good reason.  The suits are fantastic!  Each suit is totally handmade and hand painted and are works of sci-fi art.  They take about 4-6 weeks to make and can be shipped anywhere in the world.

We have a bunch of very happy customers, some of whom have shared photos of their suits.  Here are a couple to take a look at:

This is our good friend Yo-Han from the Netherlands in his Scar suit (on the left) as he meets up with a fellow Pred at an outdoor event.  He has made some extensive modifications to his suit to meet his own taste and personal needs.

And here is DV from deep in the heart of Texas in his brand new Chopper suit.  Note the very nice skulls on his back, the extended blades on his right gauntlet and his highly detailed Bio-Helmet.

If you’d like to know more about these amazing Predator-type suits, shoot me an email and I’ll fill you in.

Legendary Wolf Predator is SOLD OUT!!

March 8th, 2013

Okay kids, this is the one that everyone has been waiting for, the Legendary Scale Wolf Predator:

Sideshow has just launched this massive beauty and the early reports I have received from site members is that it is FANTASTIC!!  Good paint and finishing details and the pose cannot be beaten.  In case you need a reminder, the is the Wolf cleaner from the AvP Requiem movie – and from what most people say, the only good thing about that flick.

This brute is 31 inches (787.4mm) tall and weighs in at a whopping 42 pounds (19.05kg) which would make it the default centerpiece of your Predator collection.  Comes with the bio-helmeted head and the none plus a very sweet poseable whip.  I’m waiting for mine to arrive and will post a full review on this site.  In the meantime, go check it out.

The Truth About Re-Casts

January 12th, 2013

I have received about 20 emails from fellow collectors saying that they bought a Predator kit on eBay and when it arrived were totally disappointed in the quality of the casting.  That, my friend, is because you bought a re-cast.  What is a re-cast?  Simply put, a re-cast occurs when someone (the crook) gets a real kit and then makes molds from it and starts producing and selling the resulting counterfeit kits.  It is illegal but it is so common and wide spread that virtually no one ever gets arrested let alone goes to prison.  This practice results in the original artist losing the profits from their artistic labor and you ending up with an inferior copy-of-a-copy.  True kit artists like Randy Bowen and Narin limit the number of kits they produce from a single mold.  They do that because as the mold is used it starts to deteriorate and lose the crispness of its details.  The re-caster couldn’t care less.  They will keep cranking out inferior kits until the mold falls apart.  And that is why you get kits with rotten details, pin holes, seam lines and made from poor quality resin.  So, how do you know if you are buying a re-cast?  If the seller is in China, Thailand (I know that is where Narin lives but he does not sell on eBay), or any of the so-called Pacific-Rim countries, stay away.  Those areas are hot beds of re-casting and you can assume you will be getting a counterfeit kit.  Let me quickly add that the sole exception to that characterization is Japan.  They have brilliant artists (remember Fewture?) turning out quality work.  Our policy here at Predator Stuff is to NEVER sell re-cast kits.

Please do not be seduced by the unbelievably low price of a kit.  As the expression goes, if it’s too good to be true, it probably isn’t true.

OMG! What a Turkey

September 28th, 2012

Never have I been this disappointed in a Predator product.  The recently issued Predator statue from Sideshow is just plain awful.  I received the box a few days ago and had to put it aside to deal with more pressing issues.  So this past Monday I finally got a chance to open the box and all of my anticipation and excitement went up in a puff of smoke.  Why?  Well let’s start with the paint job which is amateurist at best.  The head lacks virtually any detail, yes there are a few dapples along the center line of the skull but the whole outer perimeter of the skull is one color, kind of a brown-black without a hint of drybrushing to bring out the details.

The right hand.  It shows the black fingerless glove – a Predator trademark – but the edge of the glove is so poorly painted that it runs down into the flesh of the palm.  If you can’t stay within the line you really don’t belong painting anything!  The back is the most telling part.  The rear skirt is painted exactly the same color as the thigh and calf armor.  The feet.  Painted brown and the armor on the sandals…well it’s brown too.  Not aluminum or stainless steel or whatever type of metal they use on the Predator home world, but brown.  Even the detail on the torso and legs looks as if someone just used an air brush and sprayed randomly with no attempt to differentiate musculature.  Even the $100 NECA 18″ Predator has real netting covering the chest and legs.  But it is totally missing from this $300 statue, just painted netting.  The whole thing stinks of sloppy “who-cares” workmanship and is hardly worthy of anything from Sideshow or the whole Predator franchise.  I should have taken pictures as illustrations but I was so anxious to pack it up and ship it off that I forgot.  Recommendation from Predator Stuff:  Don’t buy it and if you already got one, send it back.  Really a shame.
