Predator Reference Guide Images Fixed, Shop Cleaned up and Social Media Updates!

March 15th, 2016

Hello everyone!

The clean-up of the site has been going strong and I’m happy to report I’ve made quite a bit of progress.  The first big issue was that NONE of the images on the Reference Guide were working anymore, so anything you would click on was broken.  I added a sexy new lightbox script and went in and fixed every single URL to the images (about a thousand of them) and it took about a week!  So check out the guide, everything is working now.

I also tidied up the shop and removed everything that was outdated, no longer available or broken.  There was 15 pages of items, it’s now down to 4 and may go down further.  So please shop with confidence, everything on there is available.

And finally, I’ve restarted the social media channels for Predatorstuff so please be sure to like our Facebook page, follow us on Twitter and Instagram and be sure to share and like our content and get the word out that we’re back in business!

I am currently talking to Narin and some other kit vendor and will be re-adding their items to the shop and I actually have some inventory coming in as well for you guys to check out.  Hang in there and I will announce some new goodies very soon!

Thanks so much for being patient while I fix things up, all the best.

Hot Toys AvP Predator Elder on Pre-Order at Sideshow and Other Goodies!

March 6th, 2016

Not sure if you guys noticed, but Sideshow collectibles has the Hot Toys Elder Predator figure on Pre-Order and it’s still available!  Last time I was actively selling these figures, they were selling for a DOUBLE what Sideshow has this at, so if you’ve always wanted to grab one of these, you might want to get your tail over to Sideshow and order one right away.  These figures are CRAZY detailed, I used to own the entire set and loved them!  These second gen ones looks awesome.

Hot Toys Elder Predator Figure

Hot Toys Elder Predator Figure

I’ve actually reviewed a couple of these figures before… I hated assembling them but they were killer when they were done.  You can check out my Predator 2 Elder review here and my Predator 2 figure review here.  Bear in mind these are some really old reviews, Hot Toys has really refined their manufacturing and these figures are better than ever now!

Sideshow also has a few other Predator goodies that are still in stock but VERY limited items left.  They have the Predator 2 full-size mask available, the Pyramid Guard Predator Mask, the Square Enix Predator figure and it looks like Sideshow is still taking Waitlist reservations for the Predator 1 Mask. If you missed out on the P1 helmet, throw your name on the list, you have nothing to lose and you never know, they might have some extras become available.

That’s about it from me for today, I’ve been working really hard at fixing up broken links and other areas of the site.  The lightbox galleries on sale items in the shop now works again properly with functioning fullscreen display (before it would load images too large), the lightbox on the news is fixed and I am slowly fixing all the images in the Predator Collectibles Index that are all busted and I added a lightbox to that as well.  I’ve updated the entire framework and fixed or suppressed weird errors and have been fixing up some broken links and such.  I see a ton of links and external sites no longer work so all that will be fixed as well.

I also tried sending a newsletter and only 75 went out before I realized an issue with the script.  I’ll need to fix that before I can resend.  FUN STUFF!

Hope you all have a great evening… back to work tomorrow.

I’m BACK! Dan Returns to Predatorstuff and Massive Updates Coming Soon!

March 3rd, 2016

Hello everyone!

It has been a LONG time since I even looked at a collectible, so you can imagine my shock when the previous owner of Predatorstuff.com and my old friend Rich approached me pretty much out of the blue asking if I would like to take back the site.  I was caught completely by surprise but there was no way I would let the site be shut down so I gladly accepted.  It would appear I’m back!

arnie

How the hell are you guys?!  I hope everyone has been well over the last few years, your families are well and your collections are growing.  I see there’s been some beautiful new Predator pieces released in the last 5 or 6 years and we’ve got some new high end collectible companies making new goodies.  The high end market seems to be growing, I’m seeing $1000+ pieces on a regular basis now, they’re stunning, but damn, those price tags are pretty beefy.

Rich did his best to keep the site going with what little time he had, so a big thank you for all his work he was able to put in when he could.  The infrastructure of the site itself hasn’t been touched very much since I last saw it so there is a LOT of work to be done.  I upgraded the entire framework of the articles/wordpress system and it pretty much broke everything.  I’ve been working with a friend for about 2 weeks now trying to get the code updated for the shop and the Predator index of collectibles and it’s finally functional again.  There is a massive clean-up required in the shop, it’s full of old items that are no longer available, sold etc or the items don’t even load.  Please bear with me while I clean it up and add new items that are current products and pre-orders.  Remember, if you order Sideshow products, please do it through our shop links to support the site!

I am also looking to update the design of the site with a new header menu with WAY less clutter, a two column layout instead of 3, and bigger visual elements.  The structure overall will stay along with the colors and such, I just want to give the ol’ girl a facelift.

The Predator Collectibles Index is working, but it’s full of broken photo links and it’s missing any Predator items released in the last 5 or 6 years, so those will need to be researched and added.  If you want to give me a heads up on new items that have been issued by any companies or hobbyists, please leave me a comment with some details and I will add it ASAP.

The newsletter system also appears to have been beaten up by spammers, there was 55,000 emails in it!  I ran some filtering on the list and managed to prune off 50,000 bogus emails so hopefully that list is now pretty clean.  I will definitely be going back to providing product updates and important bulletins when rare collectibles or a costume become available like I used to.

The final challenge will be re-establishing all my contacts with old friends, suppliers and fellow Predator and Alien fanatics that enjoyed this site and it’s services and content.  I’ve already been in touch with some of my close friends that still work in the prop and kit community to let them know Predatorstuff.com is being rejuvinated and open to new opportunities.  I am also looking for content writers that would like to write reviews for the site or other editorial content, I am open to all kinds of content and would love to hear from you.  Leave me a comment or contact me through the contact page.

I am REALLY excited to be back working on the site.  I’ve created all kinds of web projects and some of them pretty big, but this little site will always be my favorite… my baby.

See you all very soon, please post a comment even if it’s just to say hi or report something that’s broken.  All the best!
Dan

The Truth About Re-Casts

January 12th, 2013

I have received about 20 emails from fellow collectors saying that they bought a Predator kit on eBay and when it arrived were totally disappointed in the quality of the casting.  That, my friend, is because you bought a re-cast.  What is a re-cast?  Simply put, a re-cast occurs when someone (the crook) gets a real kit and then makes molds from it and starts producing and selling the resulting counterfeit kits.  It is illegal but it is so common and wide spread that virtually no one ever gets arrested let alone goes to prison.  This practice results in the original artist losing the profits from their artistic labor and you ending up with an inferior copy-of-a-copy.  True kit artists like Randy Bowen and Narin limit the number of kits they produce from a single mold.  They do that because as the mold is used it starts to deteriorate and lose the crispness of its details.  The re-caster couldn’t care less.  They will keep cranking out inferior kits until the mold falls apart.  And that is why you get kits with rotten details, pin holes, seam lines and made from poor quality resin.  So, how do you know if you are buying a re-cast?  If the seller is in China, Thailand (I know that is where Narin lives but he does not sell on eBay), or any of the so-called Pacific-Rim countries, stay away.  Those areas are hot beds of re-casting and you can assume you will be getting a counterfeit kit.  Let me quickly add that the sole exception to that characterization is Japan.  They have brilliant artists (remember Fewture?) turning out quality work.  Our policy here at Predator Stuff is to NEVER sell re-cast kits.

Please do not be seduced by the unbelievably low price of a kit.  As the expression goes, if it’s too good to be true, it probably isn’t true.

I AM ALIVE!

September 3rd, 2010

Hey all!  I apologize for my absence, please don’t worry about me, the site or your orders, everything is still ok.  Narin has shipped a few items and more is coming up and I will be communicating everything later this weekend.  Unfortunately I am EXTREMELY busy away from the PC and haven’t had any PC time in the last week and a half at least.  I will be getting in touch with everyone in the coming days and catching up, so please bear with me!

Thanks,
Dan

AMAZING 1:1 Neytiri Bust by Darren Harvey and All Things Avatar from Sideshow!

June 15th, 2010

Good afternoon everyone, hope you all had a great weekend and look forward to another week of news and reviews in the world of Predators and anything else I happen to love from the science fiction world.  This afternoon however, we take a sidetrip to the world of Pandora and the insanely amazing art of Darren Harvey.  Specifically, I want to show you guys this INSANE 1:1 scale bust of Neytiri that he's producing…

I have sent an email to Darren to congratulate him on this piece and to find out a bit more info (like how much and how soon can I have this in my office?!) and here's the scoop on this INSANE piece!

This is a full size 1:1 scale bust in HUMAN scale, meaning that the head is the size of an adult human's head, not the enormous head of the Navi. Darren is a commercial illustrator by trade and this is his FIRST full scale, full size portrait. Yes you read right, this is his FIRST full size piece.  Is it me or are some people just so damn talented in makes my teeth itch….  anyhow, moving right along…

The sculpt itself was made in WED clay (not to rub it in, but this was also Darren's FIRST time using WED clay as well) and he used large clear Scleral shells with paper placed behind it to use as a visual reference.  I have to admit, that's a pretty awesome strategy, then again the extent of my sculpting skills doesn't go much beyond a pail full of sand with a couple of rocks on top of it and a well placed stick for a flag.  Once the sculpt was complete and molded, it was time for the hair… 40 feet of braided hair to be precise!  After four months of work, Neytiri was ready for the limelight, including a sweet removable Ikran flight visor with the insect wing lenses made from heat-formed vac plastic, resin tooth, and airbrushed to perfection.  The head itself is cast in hollow PU resin.  The eyes are painted, but before you grumble about how glass or acrylic eyes are better and more realistic than painted eyes, Darren is also a trained ocular technician (builds prosthetic eyes) so this is pretty much going to be the most kick ass pair of Navi eyes you'll ever see away from the screen!

OK I know, now you're screaming HOW DO I GET ONE?!  Well, you'd better have your checkbook ready and be fast…  Darren is limiting this to 10 fully finished pieces and 20 raw castings he will be offering to people he knows will have the piece as part of their private collection, he obviously doesn't want this baby getting recast.  I should also mention that 5 of the 10 are already sold!  Now for the all important question: How big a hole will this make in your wallet?  A fully finished piece will run you £1,500 (that about $2,222 USD) and a raw casting (the raw casting is the head only, you don't get the hair and bling) is £400 (which is about $593 USD).

Want to get in touch with Darren for more information?  Email him directly by clicking HERE! Want to drool at more photos of this incredible piece?  Click the photo icon below!

Congratulations Darren, your work is absolutely STUNNING and I think I speak for everyone when I say I can't wait to see more of your work in the future!

Want to see more sweet Avatar goodies?  Sideshow has been releasing a steady stream of gorgeous Avatar art prints known as "giclee prints" in very low release numbers, some of which are almost totally sold out.  They range in price from affordable to.. well… up there, but they are all gorgeous and pretty damn impressive.  The piece "Neytiri in the Forest" is easily my favorite of the bunch, damn that Navi is one sexy blue chickita!  Check them out below (click the image of the one you want for more photos and order information):

Hey, maybe you're not a Navi fan… perhaps your man is Colonel Miles Quaritch and that kick ass AMP suit of his.  If so, Sideshow has you covered with the INSANELY cool AMP Suit Maquette standing at nearly 2 feet in height!  Fire and brimstone attitude and live ammunition not included.

Launching the Sideshow Collectibles line of AVATAR collectibles is the AMP Suit Maquette, created in conjunction with one of the film's special effects studios, Legacy Effects. Created directly from 3D modeled by the team that created the 14-foot suit used during filming, the AMP Suit is a truly authentic scaled representation. Each piece is individually painted and finished, each with its own unique quality and detail that is the trademark of a handcrafted Sideshow Collectibles product. The AMP Suite Maquette is comprised of polystone, cloth, resin, fiberglass, metal, ABS and PVC plastics and is the perfect addition to any display.

Product Size: 21" H x 18.5" W x 18.5" D
Product Weight: 51.00 lbs

Click HERE for all the photos and order information (there are only 10 pre-order spots left according to the low quantity alert meter) from the Sideshow product page!

Have I mentioned before that I love Avatar?  That's it for me gang, have a great day!

Peace,
Dan
