A HUGE Thanks to Sideshow for Spooktacular 2008!

November 2nd, 2008

I am one exhausted mofo… Last week Sideshow launched Spooktacular 2008 and after hours and hours of chatting with Sideshow staff and other Sideshow freaks and a serious lack of sleep, the show came to an end Friday night with some INSANE prizes! I would now like to offer up some thanks to Sideshow for an AMAZING job, I genuinely had a blast!

Spooktacular 2008

If you’re asking yourself what IS Spooktacular, it is a 1 week long sales and prize winning extravaganza held by Sideshow Collectibles and the week features amazing new product launches and announcements, a 24 hour chat room with trivia and special guests and other prize giveaways, contests on the site itself, special guests, featurettes and much more! Personally I absolutely LOVE the chat and trivia, I always seem to be able to score some great prizes, much to the annoyance of my fellow chat folks. This year the chat was PACKED and I want to send a shout out to my fellow freaks Lettuce, Ozz, HB, Shropt, Weta, Ken, Beowulf and all the gang who shared laughs (and curses when we lost contests), you guys were so much fun to hang out with this year. I would also like to thank Chris, Dennis and Alex from Sideshow who was there the majority of the time making sure chat was running smooth and prizes were dished out. They did a GREAT job and I honestly can not wait until next year… I really enjoyed the SDCC chat earlier this year, but I think this event was even better.

Part of Spooktacular is the anticipation of new product launches, and while we didn’t get any new Predator or Alien products up for Pre-Order, they did launch one piece that I freaked out over, it’s the Uruk-Hai Berserker from Lord of the Rings. This thing is GORGEOUS!

Uruk-Hai Berserker

The Uruk-Kai Premium Format is easily my favorite product of Spook 08, and will look awesome with Lurtz and Moria Orc once they are all released. Here’s a list of the goodies that were launched:

- Slave Leia Premium Format Statue Exclusive Edition (Sold Out)
- Slave Leia Premium Format Statue
- The Creature From The Black Lagoon Diorama
- Tyrannosaurus Rex VS Triceratops Diorama Exclusive Edition
- Tyrannosaurus Rex VS Triceratops Diorama
- Frankenstein Meets the Wolf Man SSE Edition (Sold Out)
- Frankenstein Meets the Wolf Man (Sold Out)
- Uruk-hai Berserker Premium Format Statue Exclusive Edition (Sold Out)
- Uruk-hai Berserker Premium Format Statue
- Subject 805: Tactical Containment Unit Operator Spooktacular Edition
- Classic Iron Man Comiquette Exclusive Edition (Sold Out)
- Classic Iron Man Comiquette
- Iron Man Mark I

I also ordered the Mark I, I plan on displaying my Iron Man Full Size Bust along with all the Hot Toys Mark suit releases, which look insanely cool! You can bet I’ll fire off some pics of all these pieces as they arrive in the coming months, so stay tuned!

And in addition to these goodies, let’s for forget about the prize hauls! I actually won 5 trivia contests (I was only allowed to win 1 prize per day not including Sideshow swag like key-chains and hats, so I won something every day and even answered just to annoy Chris from time to time lol! I’m the trivia masta! I ended up passing on a couple of prizes to other folks that were in the chat, but I did keep a couple of cool plushies that I thought were neat… here’s what I won:

This is Sam, a spooky little guy from the upcoming movie Trick r’ Treat… I initially saw this during SDCC and although I didn’t buy one, I did think it was pretty cool, so I was REALLY happy when I won one. He’ll look cool on my work desk. You can check out this figure on the Sideshow site by clicking HERE.

Sam!

Later on that night as the chat was closing up, I was talking with a few people about the vinyl and plushi dolls and I mentioned how it would be fun to win a Jigsaw Saw Puppet plushi to go with Sam… well, guess what I won the next morning! My very own Jigsaw!! You can check that guy out HERE.

Jigsaw Saw Puppet!

I also won a couple other items that I gave out to friends in chat, but I did keep one little goodie I won to add to my collection of Sideshow swag, a Jason key-chain! They actually sell these as well, you can find them on the Sideshow site HERE.

Jason Voorhees Mask Keychain!

Not a bad haul eh? And some chat members took away some HUGE prizes, including a HellBoy Premium Format Statue and other high end collectibles, it was great!

So thanks again to everyone at Sideshow that puts this show together, it was just AWESOME and I think it is so cool to see a company do so much for their fans. I look forward to next year’s Spooktacular and all the other events in between! If you want to check out all the Spook news and events and features like the “It Collects from Beyond” series of mini films starring Sideshow staff, visit the main Spooktacular 2008 page by clicking HERE.

Until next time!

Introducing the Double Axe Predator by Narin and Predastore!

October 29th, 2008

Hi gang! I’ve been DYING to tell you guys about an AWESOME new kit that I saw in development several months ago, and I can finally let the cat our of the bag! Presenting the latest full figure kit from Narin, the Double Axe Predator produced by Predastore:

This KICKASS new sculpt in 1:6 scale captures a screaming hunter who is obviously about to open a can of serious WHOOPASS on someone or something. This kit is actually produced in Switzerland and is one of the first offerings by Predastore, who has asked me to help get these out to you GK fans in North America. Cast in solid resin, this sculpt is expected to be in stock in 2 or 3 weeks and I am getting about 10 pieces to start. You can go ahead and get your pre-order in and lock down one of the first 10 kits by clicking HERE!

No worries on casting limits, if I need more than 10, there’s no problem I can get more, and I will be drop shipping these to overseas customers as usual to help you guys save on shipping. I don’t have any painted photos yet, but I will soon and of course Joe Dunaway will be getting one (He’s been DROOLING over this piece!) to work his paint slinging magic.

In the meantime, you can check out pics of the master sculpt and the parts break down, or place your order by clicking here!

Are you a NEWSLETTER subscriber? If so, be sure to catch tonight’s newsletter for a NEWSLETTER EXCLUSIVE offer, where you will have the chance to order a brand new piece that will not be announced for several weeks to come. Predatorstuff Presents the New Young Spear Huntress by Deaw!

October 21st, 2008

Hi Everyone! I am very excited to show off a brand new sculpt by a new Thai artist known as Deaw and this is his new kit called the Young Spear Huntress.

This is a super detailed sculpt with gorgeous armor and I love how the female sculpt has a thin athletic look to it rather than huge breasts and hips that we typically see, not that those are bad or anything! I just dig the change, you can just picture this huntress sprinting through swamps leaving the big boys eating her dust.

The piece is sculpted in 1:6 scale by Deaw and the photos I have handy are of the sculpt in progress, so it’s important to note that while the sculpt does have bare breasts, the kit includes chest armor that can be added to cover the breasts PLUS she comes with a huge spear with an axe-like head on it, and a small base. I have JUST posted this for sale in the shop, which you can see by clicking here, and you can click on the photo gallery on that page to see more photos. Please note that the gallery photos do contain nudity. You can also see a complete part breakdown including the base, spear and chest armor on the final pic, which is a scan of the actual kit parts.

I will be taking preorders for the next two weeks or so, and then I will place my order with the supplier, so please expect the initial shipment to arrive at the end of November. So if you would like to view the photos or pre-order this kit, please click here.

Next up I want to show you guys some sweet new box art I created recently. I just received samples of the printed box sleeves and they look AWESOME so I want to show them off a bit! Stay tuned for that tonight or tomorrow, plus I have a new art piece to show you guys.

See you then!

Busts, Busts and MORE Busts! Exciting New Predator Sculpts and Kits!

October 15th, 2008

Hello everyone! As promised, I have a huge list of new goodies to show you and as I was getting all the photos and material together, I noticed every single piece is actually a bust. So, I guess tonight is Pred Bust night! There’s more coming tomorrow too, but this is the majority of the new goodies I wanted to share with everyone. First, we’ll start with a new pre-painted piece released by a company called Imagine Nation Studios. It’s a stylized sculpt of a Predator 1 bust that includes the bust with working LEDs, the base and numbered plaque.

The statue is limited to 20 units and you can check out the official product page for this piece by clicking here. There only seems to be a few spots left, so you have to hurry if you want to grab one. Here’s the specs:

PREDATOR DIMENSIONS:

Weight : 12 kilos (20 Lbs)
Height with base : 26 inches
Width : 24 1/2 inches
Front to Back : 19 inches (tip of face to back part)

Again, if you would like to purchase one of these busts, you need to visit their site at imaginenationstudios.multiply.com.

If you want to see all the photos, you can check out the product page or just click the photo icon below to visit the gallery:

Next up is an AMAZING piece that I absolutely HAD to show you guys, but unfortunately this is NOT available for sale as a kit or a prepaint, it’s only a sculpt created as a case study by the amazingly talented Rick Fernandes. This is a gorgeous Predator 1 sculpt in 1:3 scale done in Plastiline, which is a super soft material that can not be baked or hardened, so it can’t be shipped or molded. Check out this awesomeness:

I was introduced to Rick’s sculpting talents a few months ago and I was blown away by the variety and highly detailed sculpts he does. I highly recommend you visit his blog to see his work at rickwerewolf.blogspot.com and just lose yourself for hours in the sculpts he’s got on there. BUT, fear not Pred fans, Rick has admitted to me that he has plans on creating a full size version of this sculpt, which he may offer castings of in very small numbers. If he does, you can bet I’ll be posting it as soon as it’s available! For now though, all we can do is drool at this sculpt by checking out the photos:

Now that I have you upset that you can’t get your hands on that beauty, I will now tell you about a new sculptor and company called Hell Resin and 2 sweet P1 sculpts that will soon be available for purchase. First up is a SWEET 1:3.5 scale Predator 1 bust with a super detailed head and completely separate dreads:

Measuring in at 11.5″ tall and 8.5″ wide, this is a beautiful sculpt by Laurence Yiu that comes with a ton of parts! The part breakdown is as follows: Skulls x 3, Necklace bones x 12, Chest armour pipe x 1, Short dreds x 8, Long dreds x 48, Teeth x 4, Cannon x 1, Cannon stand x 1, and Backpack armour x 1.

For the moment I am waiting for one of these to arrive so I can check it out in detail and from there I will be able to provide these to you guys, so keep an eye out for when this is available in the shop. For now, please check out the photos I sent from Hell Resin by clicking the icon below:

The other cool piece from them is a sweet Predator 1 closed-mouth head done in full 1:1 scale!

I don’t have the exact dimensions on this yet, but I also have one on the way to check out and it will be available soon for purchase. I really like this piece because it’s really one of the only Predator 1 heads you can find that is currently in production that is made of RESIN (Yes I know there’s Howard’s bust, but it’s hard to find originals and they are expensive) AND you can probably fit a bio-helmet on this because of the pose of the mouth!

So I will let you guys know when this is available in the shop and I’ll have more information on it soon, but you can check out all the pics once again by clicking the icon below:

And last, but certainly not least, I would like to introduce you to a VERY talented sculptor named Terry Norton and his AMAZING mixed Predator Bust! This is apparently his first Predator sculpt that he made for a friend and it features a mix of P1, P2 and SWS concept features to make a unique and VERY cool looking bust.

Terry first posted this beauty when he was in the middle of sculpting it over at the Lair, and we all immediately had to pick up our jaws off the floors, and then we begged him to make us some castings. Well a few months later, I contacted Terry just to see what happened and low and behold, HE CAST IT! I re-checked the original photos he posted just to make sure the sculpt was as awesome as I remember and I knew I had to have one.

Terry informed me that he does have a few castings available, so some of you can still get your hands on this gorgeous piece if you want one! There isn’t a specific scale for this bust, but it’s 14″ tall and and 12″ wide, so it’s about 1:1.5 scale or so. Due to the cost of this piece (Terry is in the UK and postage and materials are very expensive there compared to North America and to Terry’s credit, he’s cut the price of this piece down a lot to make it attainable for fellow collectors) I will not likely carry this in the shop, but you can purchase it direct from Terry yourself! Cost is around $225 or so and to give you an idea of shipping from the UK, it cost $70 for him to ship it to me in Canada using a 3-5 day service with tracking. Just contact me for Terry’s info if you want to purchase one or want more information.

And of course we have photos for your viewing pleasure:

So that’s about it for tonight guys! I still have a ton to report and I will be sending out another newsletter in a day or so with some awesome news, so keep an eye out for that and please be sure to post your comments by clicking the comment button below.

Thanks and take care!
Dan
