Sideshow Open Panel at SDCC 2009 Reveals Tranformers License and other License Expansions!
July 26th, 2009
Here’s a pretty darn cool update for you guys… yesterday evening Sideshow held an open panel and Q&A seminar at SDCC 2009 and part of that panel revealed several new license acquisitions as well as additional license expansions. Unfortunately there doesn’t seem to be much in the way of footage for the Q&A session or a transcript, but they did show off some gorgeous concepts that are on the way! Check these out…
First up is my favorite announcement, and aside from the surprise Vader Bust, this is probably my favorite announcement of the entire con. Sideshow has acquired the license for Transformers 2 and currently have a 20"+ high Optimus Prime Maquette in development, with more on the way. I will DEFINITELY be owning this guy!

We all knew that when Sideshow acquired the Disney license, it was just a matter of time until the obvious decision of making a Captain Jack Sparrow Premium Format statue from Pirates of the Caribbean would be announced. Well, it’s official… he’s currently in development!

And like we didn’t have enough Star Wars lines to worry about, Sideshow has now announced the new Legendary Scale Bust line of statues for our collecting pleasure, with some very cool concept sketches promising kick-ass new goodies for Star Wars freaks. Commander Cody is the first in the LSB line, with tons more to come apparently.

Here’s the complete list of all the posted announcements from the Panel:
- Avatar License
- Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles License
- Transformers 2 License
- Marvel Licensing Expansion
- G.I. Joe Licensing Expansion
- Indiana Jones Licensing Expansion
- Disney Licensing Expansion
- Star Wars Licensing Expansion
