PredatorStuff Reviews the New Kre8-FX AVPR Wolf Cannon!
January 2nd, 2009
Ohhhh baby have I got a treat for everyone today! Something very special has arrived in to my grubby little paws and it’s something I know a lot of you have not seen yet… it’s a brand new sculpt of the Wolf’s cannon from AVPR that was built from scratch by the talents hands of Pete Mander from Kre8-FX Studios! Could this be a sign of things to come in the costume world?

When Pete first started telling about his Wolf Predator ambitions and I started seeing chunks of wood with outlines of cannon details on them, I thought he was out of his mind… less than a month later, I have a super accurate cannon on my desk, fully decked out with lights, cannon arm, base and wiring! It never ceases to amaze me how quickly Pete can take a sculpt from start to finish, the guy is a machine! The first thing I want to mention on this sample he sent me is the ingenious way you assemble it – MAGNETS! The cannon mounts to the arm and base with hidden Earth Magnets and the housing for the light up glyphs mounts to the cannon top using the same setup. No connectors, no joints, no nothing… gotta love it! Further down you will find a link to a video review I put together and posted on YouTube.. please be sure to check that out, I demonstrate how the magnets work and how sturdy they hold the pieces together.
The sculpt itself is extremely accurate and was built by using reference photos in the ADI book as well as maquette and kit reference photos I had collected over the last year or so. Unfortunately I no longer have the Sideshow AVPR Cannon so I can’t compare the two directly, but from what I can tell they are almost identical in size and detail. I do have to admit that I MUCH prefer this base however, it looks infinitely cooler. I also really like the mesh effect that he installed over the light-up glyphs on the top of the cannon.

In terms of availability, these will not be mass produced whatsoever and will be have very limited availability… you can get this both as a prepaint as seen in my photos and review, or you can get a kit version, which is a raw casting of all the parts you need to put together this final display, including all the hoses and magnets. Please be sure to contact me if you are interested in purchasing this set, it will not be available as a regular item in the shop.
The overall display is quite big and solid, weighing in at about 8 lbs and measures about 12″ high, 4″ wide and 13″ deep when viewed from the front, however bear in mind that because the cannon connects to the base with magnets, you can swivel the cannon to point in any direction you wish.

Please be sure to view my video review on YouTube by clicking here! (Remember to click on the “watch in high quality” link under the video if available) The videos shows you the light-up functionality as well as the magnet set up used to assemble to main pieces together.
And of course I fired off a bunch of photos for your viewing pleasure AND as an added bonus, I’ve uploaded a bunch of in-progress photos from Pete that show you how this went from a piece of wood and chunk of clay to the final badass alien hole-puncher you see before you!
