Predatorstuff.com Reviews Hell Resin’s New Predator 1 Bust!
November 13th, 2008
Hello everyone! As promised, today I would like to share a new piece with you that has just arrived from the royal paint treatment of Joe Dunaway and I am absolutely FLOORED by how cool this is! Introducing the new 1:3 scaled Predator 1 bust by Hell Resin…

Hell Resin is a new kit company in Hong Kong, and this is one of their first offerings, along with a full size Predator 1 head that we’ll be featuring soon, and an upcoming Pumpkinhead bust in full scale! And considering this is the first kit they release, I am VERY impressed with the scale, detail of the sculpt and the casting quality… Joe reported that this kit required zero cleanup, it was ready to paint right out of the box!

The bust is quite large, measuring 11.5″ tall and 8.5″ wide, and about 5 lbs and contains a total of 79 parts, including 48 dreads! For a sense of the 1:3 scale, the head itself without dreads is a bit bigger than my fist. Here’s the total part breakdown aside from the main body and head:
Skulls x 3
Necklace bones x 12
Chest armour pipe x 1
Short dreds x 8
Long dreds x 48
Teeth x 4
Cannon x 1
Cannon stand x 1
Backpack armour x 1
In total you’ll find over 80 parts! I will admit that attaching each dreads is not the pleasant of experiences, but DAMN does it look good once it’s done! To make life easier, the dreads are all numbered at the ends and the head has the corresponding numbers cast in each hole where the dreads need to go… clever eh? The bones are also all pre-drilled, making threading a snap! You can literally take it out of the box, wash it, prime it and start painting.
With a top of the line paint job like the one Joe Dunaway threw on this, every little wrinkle of the detailed sculpt comes alive, the texturing is really sweet. I’d say my only complaint overall is the head is looking a little too downward on the overall pose, so the eyes are hidden unless you look upwards at the bust. It’s not a huge deal and looks PERFECT on the high shelf I have it displayed on, but I can see some folks noticing that pose is a bit unusual, and you only see it when you look at the bust dead on.

When all is said and done, this is easily the best scaled Predator 1 bust I have ever seen, and easily stands out on the display shelf. I wouldn’t hesitate to add this one to your collection if you’re a fan of the Predator 1 design, that’s for sure!
Oh and did I mention this piece is already available? You can add one of these to your kit collection right away, just click here to visit our shop and you can place your order! You can also click the gallery link on the product page and enjoy some eye candy from this morning’s photo session.
I’ve also posted a little review on Youtube if you’d like to check it out… click here to watch it on YouTube! Be sure to post a comment if you have a YouTube account, I’m always looking for feedback on my little videos. This video review is the first one where I add some simple effects like fade in/out and credits at the end and I’ll try to add new things as I go.
A big congrats to Hell Resin, this piece is just amazing, so a huge round of applause for you guys… and of course a round of applause for Joe Dunaway, who once again blows my mind with those paint skills of his.
