Predatorstuff Introduces Paul Thornton’s Predator 1 Bio Helmet!
November 4th, 2008
From time to time I have the pleasure of running in to folks that had some fairly significant impact in the costume and fan prop world, and today I want to show you guys a Predator bio helmet produced by one of the first guys to ever issue a fan-made Predator Helmet, and his name is Paul Thornton.

Paul is one of the original members of the Lair and was one of the first guys to offer a relatively screen-accurate fan-made bio helmet… Paul was around years before Jamie Vierra was selling his KingJamie bio helmets and before anyone had heard of Paul Francis’ Porsche Helmet! So needless to say, it’s been a real pleasure to meet Paul and I am very excited to review a fresh casting of his re-released Predator helmet. In fact I am very exited to show this to you costume and collector folks, because at this point, this is the best bio I have ever seen for under $250! This helmet comes completely finished, painted, lenses installed AND LED lights for the small price of $225!! I’ve been on the Predator prop scene for a few years now, and I have never seen any producer offer up a bio with all that for that low of a price… NEVER.
So the real question is, is this bio helmet any good? The price is good, but… does it look cool? I think the pictures speak for themselves, but here are my thoughts.

The casting quality is excellent.. it’s sturdy and thick but not super heavy and this thing can take a beating as it is reinforced with fiberglass, you can see the strands from the inside. The finish is very smooth with sharp details and the smoked lense is perfect for both display or for wearing on a costume. The bio measures 21 inches from chin to the top of the crown, and 12.5 inches at it’s widest point, so this is a full scale piece that would fit a full-size mask or bust.
The paint job is beautifully applied with rich texturing using multiple hues of grey, silver, black, white and subtle browns… the finished product is gorgeous! And the entire helmet comes together with red LEDs lights installed in the laser shroud, powered by a 9v battery and hidden switch along the jawline.
Overall I am completely impressed and I am still blown away that Paul only asks $225 for this helmet! If you would like to order one of these for yourself, you can contact Paul directly by clicking HERE or you can click the icon below for tasty photo goodness:
