Stan Winston has passed away :(
June 16th, 2008
Guys, it is with great sadness to announce that Stan Winston, the man that has inspired and entertained so many of us, died of Cancer yesterday, June 15th. You can read about it here http://www.aintitcool.com/node/37106 and on Steve Wang’s MySpace page.
At first I thought this was a hoax but it does seem to be real and I expect more information will hit the internet over the coming hours. Please pause for a moment of silence for Stan and his family and friends. God bless you Stan and thanks for all the memories and bringing our imaginations and dreams (and nightmares) to life. Rest in peace.
Just read this - I am stunned. What a huge loss to everybody who was entertained by him and his creations.
There are so many a$$holes in this world we didn’t need to lose another one of the good guys. I’m gutted.
Rest in peace Stan - you always were and always WILL be one of my heroes.
Stan Winston was an artist and i am very sad that we have lost him.
Stan Winston has brought joy to my life from his creature creations and toys. (the claw) and i pray that he has a good after life.

Now this is indeed saddening news. Mister Winston was the entire reason I formed an interest in special effects. He was brilliant in so many ways. A talented man to say the least. When I first heard about his death, I thought it to be only rumor. Now that it’s been confirmed, I do feel the loss profoundly. So where ever you may be now Mister Winston..Thank you for all you’ve done.
It’s a sad day for all of us but we are all extremely blessed to have experienced Stan’s artistic abilities and creativity. He was a great and generous person.
He has inspired so many and he will be truly missed.

Just got home from work jumped on to Predstuff and cant belive what I’m reading. What a shock.
Stan may you rest in peace and thank you for your wicked creations espesially the predator that have inspired me from a young age.
The world has lost a LEGEND.

I will always hold a place in my heart for Stan….he inspired me to never give up and always push myself to the limits.
Many artists and fans were touched by Stan, He was a fantastic artist and a great man.
I will forever miss the man that created my mandibled masterpiece.
Shocking news, this was. While I won’t presume what kind of a person he was or was not.. he was a truly gifted artist who singlehandedly created some of the most iconic creatures and creations of our time - many of which inspired me to become an artist myself.
I am sure that SW Studios will press on.. I imagine Stan would want them to. My heart goes out to them and to his family. Definitely a legend of his craft. R.I.P.
A incredible loss, Stan provided us with the best characters imagination could provide. Those characters The Predator, Terminator, The T-Rex and many others are part of america’s cinematic history and we are so lucky to be able to see them over and over again.Be at peace Stan and God Bless.
Stan Winston is a one of a kind genius that led the way for those of us who
are designers, artists, creators, and everything that he embodied.
What an inspiring life and career he had. I am an artist/special effects creator
today largely due to interest in the many creations he gave to us in film and print.
Thanks for everything Stan, you’ll always be a shining star to us.
thats absolutely tragic… the man fueled so much in the imagination. he’ll never be forgotten (fortunately) but (unfortunately) his great mind will not ever be projected into our world ever again. bye stan we’ll miss ya…

Stan Winston to me is one of my great role models. Although I never met the man in person, growing up as a kid and watching films such as Terminator and Predator, I admired the character designs that he created especially the Predator. Following Stan Winston’s work throughout the years growing up has inspired me to become an artist myself in the video game industry. You made my favorite creature design “The Predator”. Thank You for the many years of amazing creatures you given us and may you rest in peace!
Very sad to hear about this!!!! Stan is the one that insired me to start a hobby in special effects. He will be missed by many, he was a LEGEND!!!!!! in my book. REST IN PEACE.
