Lot’s happening today guys and I’m running around like a chicken with my mandibles cut off trying to get this all announced on the site in between work and all that good stuff! So let’s not waste any time and get right down to business… first up, Sideshow has posted the first set of Predalien photos on the product page and I’d like to share my thoughts on them:

OK, so a few days ago I told you about the Sideshow Predalien Maquette that was up for pre-order, but they only had one small shot of the mouth and that was it. Well, this morning they posted a bunch of new pics, and I have to admit, I’m a little disappointed. Looking at the photos, I would like to make the following points:

1. How can this rather simple statue cost the same as something that is MUCH more complicated in terms of paint and assembly like the Predator Maquette?! They are charging $849.99 for this statue, but I just see how this is justified.

2. The sculpt is meh… the face looks completely wrong to me. Well, not completely, but not right… the skin between the upper and lower mandibles should be a membrane like the mouth membranes, not solid thick skin. Check out this movie still for what I mean.

3. The base sucks. I mean, couldn’t they have put a bit more effort in to the base than just a boring irregular looking panel thingy?

This just doesn’t have the “WOW” effect… I mean, I’m looking at their prototype with pro photos and I think it looks pretty boring. So combine that with the fact this is NOTHING compared the the detailed base and figure we got with the Pred maquette and I’m left wondering how this is even CLOSE to the cost. I’d pay $500 or maybe a bit more, but $850 is just too crazy… Personally I think they should have went with a full Wolf maquette instead of this. I know they have something coming of the Wolf, but it’s not a maquette… I’ll show you in just a minute.

I’d also like to ask what is with the photos Sideshow? Look, I admit I take better than average photos of these products, but the ones you are using for the prototypes are pretty darn brutal and you are using paid professional photographers. I think someone in the photog department needs a swift kick in the shutter.

So, overall, I’m really not impressed with this… I’m probably losing a few comissions by not giving this a glowing review, but I wouldn’t be able to live with myself if I didn’t say I’m pretty disappointed on this one. SIDESHOW ANNOUNCES FULL SIZE WOLD PREDATOR BUST

I’ve been actually waiting for this piece for a few months now and we’re finally starting to see some hints that it’s on the way! It’s a full size bust of the Wolf Predator from AvP-R:

This is the only photo that’s been posted, and you can find the little announcement on Sideshow’s Ministry of Information area and you can leave a comment if you like. I’ll need more photos to judge, but so far I’m fearing that super pink coloration on the mouth… if there’s anything I hate it’s people that go too nuts with the pink and rose colors on a pred mouth. It’s the ultimate painting mistake so hopefully this won’t be an issue. The Predator 1 bust Sideshow did kicked absolute ass, so hopefully this is a repeat of that. You can clearly see the melted flesh scarring and missing mandible on this one… Should be interesting to see the entire piece.
