Predatorstuff Reviews the Super Edge Predator 1 Invisible Hunter Kit Painted by Joe Dunaway (and a bit by me)!
October 26th, 2007
Today I am REALLY excited to post a review on a very special kit that I personally helped assemble and paint up before my favorite artist Joe Dunaway took over and brought this baby to life! Welcome to my review of the Super Edge Predator 1 Invisible Hunter Kit!

I actually received this raw kit quite awhile ago, at least 6 months ago now that I think about it and it was to be my first attempt at painting a full figure Predator kit. I am very please to report that unlike many of the re-released Super Edge kits that have come out in the last year or two, this particular kit doesn’t seem to suffer from the annoying pinhole problem. I’ve sold about 4 of these and all 4 were very clean with only some minor air bubble work. I should probably also mention that this was the LAST Predator kit you will see released by Super Edge as they are now defunct. BUT I know Mr. Hayes is still alive and well in the industry and you can expect something sculpted from him very soon.
The kit is cast in the usual solid high quality resin in 1:6 scale and it’s got some decent size and weight to it. It feels like quality, no question… and of course the sculpt is nothing short of flawless, which we’ve come to expect from Super Edge. I can honestly say that Narin and Hayes are easily my two favorite Predator sculptors, I don’t think anyone can quite match the level of detail and accuracy these guys work in to their pieces. Unfortunately, Super Edge is very limited in their releases AND now that they are out of business, their kits are even harder to find. When you do find them, you can expect to fork out the big bucks too, originals sell for a pretty big chunk of change.
So, now that we’ve established that this kit is pretty much Predator perfection, let me tell you the tale of how this turned in to a collab project with my numero uno painter, mister Joe Dunaway of Modelzone.com.
Basically I planned to build this myself as a project that simply wasn’t realistic for me in terms of time… I started off prepping the kit, sanding, filling etc. and primed it up. I also completely dremelled out the masked head so that I could strap his bio to his belt or maybe make it removable (which didn’t work out, the face is too big). After 3 weeks I finally managed to start slapping some paint on the kit and after 3 months I had managed to paint the skin and armor, but at this rate it would take a year just to finish the kit and I was just fed up of trying to find project time from my busy schedule. I had to face facts, I just don’t have a schedule that allows me to step away for several hours to paint on a consistent basis. So, I contacted Joe and asked if he would be so kind as to finish up my kit… I told him I loved the way the armor came together and I was happy with the skin, so he could just build on that.
What I got was something that completely blew my mind! Joe took my paint job and brought it completely alive in like… A WEEK! He re-layered and mottled the skin and added veins and added his own spotting and then painted everything else that needed work and detailed everything, especially the armor. He added tiny chips in the armor and created some BADASS lenses for the bio exactly like I wanted to do. Just look at the detail Joe puts in to his kits, it’s amazing:

He added the wires and cables with his usual insane customization skills and basically pimped out the paint in every way imaginable. Seriously guys, if you ever need something painted and you’re not sure where to turn, you would be out of your mind not to contact Joe and get a quote. You can check out his portfolio and email him from his site at www.modelzone.com and I can honestly say that his prices are fantastic when you consider the kind of skill he puts in to these things. You can be pretty much be assured that you will never see the same kit on the web built by somebody else and silently admit to yourself that their paint job is better than yours.
So, bottom line here is that this kit is completely awesome as always when we’re talking about Super Edge, and I want to thank Joe for taking this piece to the next level like only he can.
For those of you looking to score this kit, I always try to get my hands on Super Edge kits when I can because they are so tough to find originals. I guess recasts are easy to find, but the last thing you want is shoddy details on a recast piece of junk. I don’t have any Invisible Hunter kits in stock, but I do have the EXTREMELY rare Hunter of Darkness kit and the badass looking Dark Hunter kit in the shop if you want to pick up something equally as impressive as the piece featured in this article. At the time of publishing this, I only have 1 of each so act fast if you want one. You can also check out the Predatorstuff Shop for more awesome kits and props!
And now for the photo goodness! I went with a different look this time and used a white background, which allows me to flood the piece with more light to bring out the details in the metals and skin. Click the icon and go to the bottom of the page for my photos (the ones with the white background):
Enjoy gang!

That shure is a nice kit Dan. I just recieved mine in the mail recently and now after seeing Joes paintjobs on theses kits Im allmost affraid to paint it myself. But then I wouldnt have a hobby, I like the different spot pattern on the head something different from the traditional predator markings.
