Why are some Narin Kits Hollow Cast and others are Solid?
March 21st, 2007
I’ve had a couple of people, including my good friend and fellow Pred head Ian, ask me why the heck some Narin kits are hollow cast and some in solid resin. Well I’ve done some serious amounts of digging and have contacted Narin as well as various distributors and it looks like we have an actual answer! The original Narin kits (The spear ones, sword, cyborg etc.) were all cast in solid resin, but weighed a ton, and because these are distributed from Asian distributors, they complained that the high shipping costs for overseas mail order business was affecting sales. So in an effort to reduce the weight, producers started to manufacture hollow castings that brought the weight down by almost half! So that is why you will see both solid resin castings, as well as hollow resin with fiberglass re-enforcement. Apparently some of these solid castings weigh over 8lbs each!
