Featured Kit – Hunter of Darkness built and painted by Joe Dunaway
March 2nd, 2006
There are a few kits out there that are extremely rare and extremely prized by collectors simply because they are magnificent pieces, rather than because they are hard to find. The Hunter of Darkness kit produced by Nayuta is a classic example of beauty and rarity and I can’t say enough about how awesome this kit is, and you shouldn’t pass up any opportunity to grab an original if you can. Issued in 2002 and sculpted by Takahashi Shiraiwa (Super Edge anyone?), the kit includes a beautifully posed Predator with a removable mask as well as an incredibly detailed base featuring a recently killed alien. The completed statue is about 11″ tall and is built in the 1/6 scale and is probably among the top 5 most re-casted kits in circulation. Finding an original is nearly impossible, but it does happen if you keep your eyes peeled on eBay and all the usual kit vendors that sell old items and grails.
As for this build, the talented brush of Joe Dunaway did some SERIOUS work on this bad boy and it stands as one of the best full figure Predators to ever come out of his studio. It is nothing short of drop dead gorgeous and includes custom wiring and some lovely alien slime oozing over the rocks.

How sexy is THAT?! Joe is extremely talented and this makes the ninth piece I receive from him and I have many more to come! His talent is always for hire, so be sure to check out his portfolio at www.modelzone.com and you can email him anytime for a quote. From Predators to Superheroes to Dinosaurs, he does it all with 13 years experience under his belt!

Well done Joe, and I look forward to the next piece!

THAT…is hot. Very very talented person there.
I’ve seen this kit before, but it was painted, IMHO, terribly.
This just rocks my predfangirl socks off. Did someone just turn the a/c off, or is that just me?
Thanks for offering the extra shots, too. Now I have more pred eyecandy to gawk at, and I have good drawing reference to boot!
Joe is awesome! He did a boba fett for me which is just killer. I have not seen a bas piece of work from Joe.
