Sandy Collora Reveals how he Made the Red Samurai Bio!
December 10th, 2005
Ever wanted to know how Sandy made the awesome red Bio Helmet in his cult classic “Batman Dead End”? Seems like every fan of the film wants to know this one thing… what are those round things on the bio?! Well, here’s Sandy telling us exactly what they are:
I would have never in a million years, thought back in 1989, sitting in Stan Winston Studios, designing on Predator 2, when I was actually doing that drawing, that not only more than 10 years later, would I go on to direct a short film with that character in it, but that there would be an eager, talented, group of people, somewhere in cyberspace, having a detailed discussion about what I used for the spheres on the helmet, so they could make one…
That just trips me out more than you guys will ever know. It really does… and THAT is the magic of this place. Regardless of all the bickering, back and forth, or what have you, the glue, or binder if you will, that holds this place together is the dedication of all the people here to this incredibly captivating creature known as the Predator…
For all of those who’d like to know… The two spheres on Red’s helmet are actually solid, plexiglass half domes. The bigger one is 1 and 1/8 inches, and the smaller one is 1/2 inch. The backs of them are painted with Delta Ceramcoat paint, in Lima Green. They were then glued onto the helmet and washed a bit with some watered down lamp black, Liquitex acrylic.
Mystery solved.
